Off Road Park Temporarily Closed

Hopefully it is only temporary, but for now KY Outback Adventure Park is closed. The Lewis County Attorney has determined that the off road park needs to have an Entertainment License to operate. The County Officials respectfully requested that the park be closed until the application process is conducted and the license is approved. The County officials did not have any problems with the park and would have let it continue to operate until one neighbor (he lives almost a mile away from the park) complained. This person, who we'll refer to as Mr. Helmet, has made it his personal goal to cause the park owners problems. He said that he would do whatever he could to make problems for them.

Well, Mr. Helmet goes and makes a complaint against the park stating that it was his position that the park needed an Entertainment License to the County Attorney. The County then contacted the surrounding counties and found that they required ATV park operators to have them. After learning this, they stated that they felt they needed to hold to similar standards. Now the park is having to go through this application process.

Man doesn't it bite? The park was finally catching on and was seeing good traffic increases pretty much every weekend. They had put in 20 new miles of trails, earmarked a number of new hot obstacles, had made changes to keep the EPA happy and they actually had three national organizations approach them about leasing the park for major events. Now they are submarined, and the offroad community has lost (at least temporarily) a riding area all because of one Mr. Helmet!

The park managers are working closely with their attorneys in filing the application and, hopefully, they will obtain the license and be operating again in a few weeks. I'll post additional news concerning the license as there may be a public hearing held concerningwhetherr or not the county should approve the park application. The park may need the support of the offroad community.
